Lives can change in a moment. Lives are quickly changed on Tennessee roadways every day as a result of car and truck accidents. Moments of drivers looking away from the road, texting and driving, driving intoxicated, and more can all result in serious accidents. Sadly, a semi and a smaller vehicle crossed paths on a recent night resulting in the death of one man.
Distracted driving – especially electronic related – is a widely concerning public safety hazard. Despite stricter laws and publicity campaigns, we continue to see drivers around us using their phones while behind the wheel. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nine people are killed and thousands more injured each day across the country.
Drivers must focus more than ever to keep their eyes on the road. Prior to the use of mobile phones, there were plenty of distractions all around a driver, such as the scenery on the road, other occupants of a vehicle, radios and more. Mobile phones and other technology, such as navigation systems, are a significant added distraction and can result in serious car accidents. Although it is not known if a recent crash is the result of a driver's use of a cell phone, something resulted in the Tennessee driver committing a fatal driving error.
