Truck accidents: The aftermath can be highly stressful

Tennessee highways can be dangerous, as anyone who regularly travels throughout the state can attest. Many high-risk situations result in truck accidents, which are especially tragic when fatalities occur or when children are involved. A recent incident resulted in four deaths, and has left a family not only reeling with grief but also speaking out against highway patrol investigators.

A 34-year-old woman was traveling with her young son, her niece and nephew. At some point, there was a collision between her vehicle and a tractor-trailer. Sadly, no one in the woman's car survived.

Problems arose when news stories in the aftermath of the crash stated that the woman had been intoxicated at the time of the incident. Later, such stories were recanted. Highway patrol officials said there was no proof of such allegations although a toxicology report was ordered, which is typical in fatal accidents.

The woman's aunt issued a statement, saying that her family is having enough trouble coping with the sudden loss of four loved ones without having to deal with false reports being publicized about her niece. Truck accidents in Tennessee and beyond often lead to litigation. If it is later determined that a truck driver's negligence was responsible for a particular collision, those who were injured can seek financial recovery for their losses. News headlines after a crash are not what matter most; rather, if a victim or immediate family member of a deceased victim believes negligence was a material factor, then gathering evidence to substantiate the claim is of highest priority. An experienced personal injury attorney can help with such tasks and can also aggressively litigate on a plaintiff's behalf in court.
