Cell phone distraction results in man's fatal personal injury

Families of deceased victims involved in motor vehicle accidents often find it overwhelming to process insurance claims, police reports, medical and burial expenses. In cases where the findings of an accident are complicated and difficult to understand, families may find the assistance of a personal injury attorney helpful when processing the aftermath of a fatal accident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is currently investigating a crash involving a motorist and a bicycle rider that resulted in the rider's death.

Two men were traveling along the same road when the crash occurred. A 53-year-old man was driving a motor vehicle when he apparently messed with his cell phone. Distracted by his phone, he didn't realize he had traveled outside of his lane. He crashed into the bicycle of a 51-year-old man.

The bicycle rider was not wearing a helmet, but helmets are not required for cyclists in Tennessee over the age of 16. The man suffered fatal injuries and did not survive. The motor-vehicle driver was wearing his seat belt, and he did not suffer any injuries. It is suspected that the driver may have been under the influence of drugs, and it is suspected that the bicycle rider may have had alcohol in his system. Blood tests and charges are pending for the driver.

In similar crashes, the family of a deceased victim may find sound advice from a Tennessee personal injury attorney. An attorney can assist families with filing insurance claims for damages. Some families may wish to understand their options for wrongful death lawsuits, especially if medical and burial expenses exceed policy limits.
